Earned Income Credit
The Earned Income Credit (EIC) is available as a special tax benefit for working people who earn low or moderate incomes. (See IRS Publication 596, Earned Income Credit, for information on who can claim a credit.)
To receive a copy of IRS Publication 596, call 1-800-829-3676. Workers who qualify for the EIC and file a federal tax return can get back some or all of the federal income tax that was taken out of their pay during the year.
