The Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Development Consortium, Inc. (WDC) provides training and employment services to local business and industry and to job seekers. Its services are designed to support maximum productivity for area businesses and the maximum level of employment for are a residents.
Because the WDC is funded through the Job Training Partnership Act and other sources, it offers a wide variety of services to job seekers and to local businesses at no charge. Services include occupational training, job search assistance, employee recruitment, outplacement services, and subsidized on-the-job training. The Workforce Development Consortium's web site includes links to a wide variety of training programs and other web sites providing job listings and resume banks, including America's Talent Bank - a nationwide electronic resume system.

The Buffalo Urban League is one of over 100 affiliates of the National Urban League. These affiliates are located in 35 states and the District of Columbia, serving most urban areas that have substantial African-American populations. Since its inception in 1926, the main thrust of the Buffalo Urban League has been to provide a practical approach for developing strategies and programs to enable African-Americans, members of other minority groups, and economically disadvantaged people to cultivate and exercise their full human potential on a par with other Americans. The Buffalo Urban League's purpose has been to give people opportunity - through skills training, counseling and support services - to become productive members of the commmunity.

The Comprehensive Employment Division (CED) of the Erie County Department of Social Services provides integrated employment and training services for employable Public Assistance recipients and Food Stamp recipients. Additionally, assistance is provided for recipients who voluntarily request help in finding employment. CED also offers pre-employment rehabilitation activities for those clients who have substantial barriers to employment. Support services are also made available to those who qualify.

Everywoman Opportunity Center, Inc. is a regional employment service provider, serving four counties of Western New York from six sites in Buffalo, Buffalo-West Side, Tonawanda, Dunkirk, Olean and Niagara Falls. All of Everywoman's programs and services are designed to be holistic - addressing multiple barriers that a woman may face in seeking self-sufficiency. Everywoman's services include but are not limited to recruitment, assessment, career counseling, case management, employment preparation, life skills training, political empowerment and educational brokering. All these services are individualized to meet the specific needs of the participant.

VESID services are provided to eligible individuals to prepare them for jobs. To be eligible for VESID's services, you must have a physical or mental impairment that significantly interferes with your ability to work. You must need vocational rehabilitation services to reach your employment goal. Your eligibility for services is determined by a review of your medical records, work history, skills, and interests. You and your VESID couselor will plan your program of vocational rehabilitation together.
Depending on what you need, you may receive one or more services such as job training and/or placement. There are no costs for meeting with a VESID vocational rehabilitation couselor, or for any services that are needed to see if VESID can help you. Once it is determined that you are eligible for services, some services may be based on financial need, depending on your income and/or family resources.
