The Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Development Consortium, Inc. (WDC) provides training and employment services to local business and industry and to job seekers. Its services are designed to support maximum productivity for area businesses and the maximum level of employment for our residents. Because the WDC is funded through the Workforce Development Act and other sources, it offers a wide variety of services to job seekers and to local businesses at no charge.

Services include occupational training, job search assistance, employee recruitment, outplacement services, and subsidized on-the-job training. The Workforce Development Consortium's web site includes links to a wide variety of training programs and other web sites providing job listings and resume banks, including America's Talent Bank - a nationwide electronic resume system.

The Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE), UB Business Alliance, is the primary portal through which industry accesses the resources of the State University of New York at Buffalo. Our role is to expedite access into and out of the University and create appropriate linkages with industry where we have quality resources.

TCIE delivers services to industrial clients in training needs assessments and the development of strategic training plans, contract training in soft skill and technical areas, New York State training grant administration and on-site training support services for major training initiatives. All programs are customized to the needs of the client. TCIE is the largest recipient of New York State training grant monies on behalf of our clients in New York State. TCIE trains between 3500 and 4500 company employees per year.

Erie 1 BOCES provides full-time job preparation training programs designed for adults seeking employment, including Industrial Welding, Drafting/CAD, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A, Customer Service Representative, Office Technology, and Certified Nursing Assistant.

These programs allow trainees to gain the skills needed to begin working and earning money. Individuals who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, dislocated workers and unemployed workers as well as private pay tuition students are welcome. Funding may be available for those who meet financial eligibility requirements. Math and reading testing along with an interview are required prior to acceptance. Enrollment is limited. Successful candidates are assisted with job placement.
